How to Care for Philodendron Oxycardium:
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. Prepare a potting mix using these ingredients. Good drainage prevents root rot and keeps the vines healthy.
- 40% Potting Soil
- 30% Coco Chips
- 20% Perlite
- 10% Compost
Sunlight: Thrives in medium to bright indirect light but tolerates low-light rooms well. This makes it a true low-light champion houseplant, perfect for offices, bedrooms, and living rooms that don’t get much sunlight.
Water: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. In summer, water 2- 3 days a week and reduce watering during wintertime.
Temperatures: Keep it in warm, humid conditions between 18°C – 30°C. Protect it from cold drafts and direct AC vents.
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season if you want healthy and fast growth of the plant.
Philodendron oxycardium vs money plant:
People are confused about these plants and ask, “Philodendron oxycardium vs money plant – are they the same thing?” It’s a good question, as we all know both plants have trailing vines and heart-shaped leaves that look nearly identical at first glance. But they actually come from different plant families. The real money plant is usually Epipremnum aureum (Pothos), whereas Philodendron oxycardium belongs to the Philodendron genus.
And to answer another common query: is Philodendron oxycardium the same as a money plant? The honest answer is no; they are not the same. They’re just easy to mix up, since both share a similar look and near-identical care routine, which is why plant lovers and buyers often use the names interchangeably.
How do I propagate Philodendron Oxycardium from cuttings?
If you want to propagate this plant at home, by following these steps, you can grow your own plants at home by cuttings –
- Choose a healthy vine with 2–3 leaves and one visible node
- Cut just below the node using clean, sharp scissors
- Remove the lowest leaf to expose the node
- Place the cutting in water, keeping the node submerged
- Set in bright, indirect light and change the water every 3–4 days
- Roots appear within 1–2 weeks
- Transfer to well-draining potting mix once roots are strong
- Keep soil lightly moist for the first couple of weeks
- Alternatively, plant directly in moist soil and maintain high humidity until new growth shows
